Questionnaire - Aled Haydn Jones
You're well-known for being part of the Chris Moyles morning radio team - what's the best thing about working on the show?
Meeting famous people, definitely! I got to meet Britney Spears recently and she was very nice - she sat down next to me for a 5 minute chat before the show, which was a completely bizarre feeling being such a fan of hers! Before working on radio, I also got to look after Madonna for a day when she did the lottery programme, and the only thing I could say all day was "This way Madonna"!! And I can confirm the gossip that Mariah Carey is not a very nice person!
Did you always want to work on radio?
I always wanted to work in the media but after leaving school I did a computing course for two years at Cardiganshire College, because dad felt the that working in the television or radio field was not a 'proper job'. But I followed my heart in the end by working on television programmes to start with before moving to radio. I should also add that my dad has changed his mind since and has been very supportive towards me!
Would you have ever taken part in anything similar to Wawffactor if you'd have had the chance when you were young?
Yes, definitely! I loved performing when I was young, and used to compete quite a bit singing and dancing in Eisteddfodau. I won solo disco dancing competitions more than once in the Urdd Eisteddfodau.
Do you think it's a good way of making it in the pop world?
It's definitely a good way but not the only way. The other option is to move to London, and to try to get to know influential people there and to make an impression on them. I wouldn't say that it's the easiest thing to try competitions like Wawffactor either because quite a bit of confidence is needed to perform on such a programme - you've got to be ready to be judged in front of the whole nation!
What have you done to embarrass yourself recently?
I'm always embarrassing myself!! In the morning, sometimes I say stupid things and all the crew start shaking their heads and I know then that I've said the wrong thing! That wouldn't be so bad in front of 4 people but there are over 7 million listening to my mistakes in the morning!
What makes you laugh?
People falling over!
What's your idea of a nightmare?
Having to go back to school!!
