Questionnaire - Bethan Elfyn
You're well-known for being a Radio 1 DJ - what was the best thing about being on the show?
I enjoy working in radio, in a little dark studio, with a pile of records, as well as all the concerts/music festivals, and various things that come up as part of the job every now and again.
Did you always want to work in Radio?
I had a big interest in journalism at the beginning, and I wrote for quite a lot of newspapers before even considering working for Radio. It was fate really.
Would you have ever taken part in anything similar to Wawffactor if you'd have had the chance when you were young?
I'm sure I'd have liked to try – but I'd be one of the ones which couldn't sing, couldn't dance, too much make-up and awful clothes!!!
Do you think it's a good way of making it in the pop world?
I think it's a realistic taste of how competitive this world is, and is a pretty close experience of having to perform and be natural in front of unfamiliar people, cameras and a lot of people staring at you. If you have a real talent for performing, these things will actually be a challenge for you and not a nightmare. As far as starting a career, it depends what level you want to reach, quite a lot of determination is needed to make it to the top, but you'll learn this on the way.
What have you done to embarrass yourself recently?
Over Christmas I was snowboarding, very badly! And I was falling over more than anything!
What makes you laugh?
Snowboarding!
What's your idea of a nightmare?
I have a lot of phobias – darkness, insects, or deep water like the sea, so you could put all of these together if you wanted to be nasty!
What kind of things will you be looking out for them in Wawffactor 2005?
I'm looking for natural people, who enjoy performing and having fun whilst competing, but at the same time I enjoy listening to natural voices that haven't too much frills!
