After winning S4C’s talent show, WawFfactor in 2005, Rebecca Trehearn launched her first CD – part of her competition prize – at the 2005 Urdd Eisteddfod, held at Cardiff’s Wales Millennium Centre.
Rebecca, who performed in the musical Alfie in London from the end of May 2005, recorded the CD at the famous Abbey Road Studios.
"Visiting the studios was a fabulous experience and I was very lucky to be given the chance to produce a CD as part of my prize," she says. "It includes two original songs - Ti’n Gadael and Teimlo Mor Dda as well as a version of Cân Walter by Meic Stevens and a video."
Rebecca spoke to us before facing another challenge as she steped onto the stage of the Watford Palace Theatre in London.
"I’m so excited about Alfie!", says Rebecca, who will play Annie, one of the main character’s girlfriends in the musical, based on Bill Naughton’s book. "Actor and performer Darren Day plays the main role and it promises to be a very successful production," she adds.
Rebecca says that her experiences on WawFfactor were a firm foundation for a career in musicals.
"Although I had sung in public many times before competing on WawFfactor, I learnt important lessons from the coaches on the series, Caryl Parry Jones and Kim Gavin. I’m a much more confident performer thanks to them and I’ve had first-hand experience of being the front person rather than part of a chorus or group. At the beginning, I felt so exposed singing solo, but now I’m a lot more self-assured."
Rebecca’s CD, 'Rebecca Trehearn', S4C label, priced £5.99 is available from Welsh shops throughout the country.
