Llandeilo / Moreb

Moreb was built for the agent of the Gelli Aur estate, owned by Lord Cawdor. What is interesting is where it is – right on the very edge of the Gelli Aur lands and up against the walls of the Dinefwr estate.

The architect was JP Pritchett of York, who possibly got the job as his father was the chaplain to the Cawdor estate.

It looks to me like the house has been turned around.I guess the original house was facing down the Towy valley. The new bridge is much higher than the original as they wanted to reduce the incline up to town. So that blocked the view of the valley, and hence the house was turned about to face the bridge.

The staircase inside is of good quality but surprisingly narrow. More like a servants stair than a main stair. Again that may reflect the fact that the house has been remodelled.
