Tudur finds himself confined in a cramped, dim and damp holding cell this week and his 'co-prisoner' sheds some light on the lawlessness prevalent in Victorian society, with a warning that Victorian justice was sometimes extremely harsh.

Bethan looks at the status of women, dealing specifically with the new marriage and divorce laws that appeared during the period. Our couple look at what the book has to offer on how to recover from various ailments and conditions, such as tuberculosis and deafness, and Bethan looks at funereal fashions, the customs surrounding death, and the attitude of the Victorians towards their own mortality.
