Profile

I have always had a fondness of water and I have been swimming since I was a very young child, so turning to the competitive side of swimming seemed a natural option.

I like to push myself as far as I possibly can, and swimming is one of the only sports where you're on your own The responsibility of reaching the top is solely down to you.

In a race, you are the only one against the clock. It's a fair sport because you're not waiting for somebody to 'discover you' – you're either fast or you're not.

I suffer from asthma, quite seriously when I was younger, and swimming helps keep my asthma in check – it's the best sport for this.

Ambition

Holding the World Record in the 100m Freestyle; win Olympic gold in London 2012, and then top it all off with Commonwealth Gold in Glasgow 2014. Having the Welsh national anthem played whilst I stand on the podium - what's better than that?!!

You have to sacrifice everything to reach the highest level, and it takes dedication in the pool and the gym. You have to set targets at the start of every season and you have to prioritise swimming over any other aspect of your life.

You have to have 100% focus, 365 days of the year. You only get one chance in sport.
